“OUR THING”® was originally the brainchild of author Alan “Gunner” Lindbloom. Gunner was born and raised in Detroit and spent his early years living with his Tocco relatives, a family notorious for being the city's reigning organized crime family for decades. In his teens and 20s, a live-wire who got in fights, sold drugs, broke the law, and attempted to follow in his uncle's footsteps, he went down a dark path that eventually led to 13 years in prison. While locked up, he turned his heart around and used his God-given gift of writing to pen several novels. Upon parole, he published his first novel, a two-part series based on a fictional Detroit Mafia family called TO BE A KING. Embracing his entrepreneurial spirit, he came up with the idea to make a run of promotional hoodies and decided to use the term “Our Thing,” the English translation of Cosa Nostra, on the back. But when he and his business partner, William Usher, posted pictures of themselves on Facebook wearing the “OUR THING” hoodies, they became inundated with requests from people who wanted an “OUR THING” hoodie of their own. Thus, the brand was born.

 

Not everyone will know the secret double meaning of “OUR THING,” but those that do understand it's a euphemism for the Mafia, a secret society of gangsters that spans the entire globe. Wearing “OUR THING” may not make you a member of the Mafia, but it will make you part of an elite brotherhood (or sisterhood) that isn't afraid to channel their inner gangster.
